Mindfulness at work

“The main business case for meditation is that if you are fully present on the job, you will be more effective as a leader, you will make better decisions and you will work better with other people.”

William George, Goldman Sachs Board Member, and Harvard Business School Fellow, 2012

Research that focuses on mindfulness at work shows that people who have attended an 8-week programme are more able to cope with their moods and stress and their concentration and relationships at workplace have improved. Other benefits include:

  • Saving costs on sick leaves
  • Greater ability to perform effectively under pressure and under VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) conditions
  • Increase of productivity
  • Improvement of job satisfaction
  • Rise of emotional intelligence

Mindfulness programmes are not only offered by large and renowned corporattions such as Google, Bosch or Intel, but also by small and medium-sized companies. One example that proves the efficiency of this method is the United Kingdom where mindfulness at work is a part of a document for development of scientific mindfulness-based programmes and where it is supported by the government.

“Learning that I have a choice as to how I respond to something has helped remove the causes of some of my stresses in life. Mindfulness has also helped me to de-escalate conflict and to deal with everything happening in my life – I honestly believe it has helped me become a better father and husband, but also a better leader for those I’m honoured to lead.”
